{"id":508,"date":"2013-01-01T16:14:53","date_gmt":"2013-01-01T16:14:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/67.20.69.208\/wordpress1\/?p=508"},"modified":"2013-01-01T16:14:53","modified_gmt":"2013-01-01T16:14:53","slug":"project-funding-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/waterways.org\/wordpress2\/project-funding-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"Fact Sheet: Project Funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Investments in water resources infrastructure are investments\u00a0<\/b><b>in the long-term strength and security of the nation.\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Reliable, well-maintained water resources infrastructure is fundamental to America\u2019s economic and environmental well-being and is essential to maintaining our nation\u2019s competitive position within the global economy. Our water resources infrastructure provides life-saving flood control, needed water supplies, shore protection, water-based recreation, environmental restoration, and hydropower production. Moreover, waterways transportation is the safest, most energy-efficient and environmentally sound mode of moving freight.<\/p>\n<p>We applaud Congress\u2019s efforts to eliminate wasteful spending, especially given today\u2019s fiscal challenges. But deferring to the Executive Branch the sole prerogative over which projects to initiate, which should receive funding, and the level and priority of funding for each, abdicates Congress\u2019s constitutional role. Such action has resulted in the stoppage, interruption and delay of critical projects.
