{"id":1329,"date":"2016-02-10T17:31:57","date_gmt":"2016-02-10T17:31:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/67.20.69.208\/wordpress1\/?p=1329"},"modified":"2016-02-10T17:31:57","modified_gmt":"2016-02-10T17:31:57","slug":"wrda16-gaining-traction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/waterways.org\/wordpress2\/wrda16-gaining-traction\/","title":{"rendered":"WRDA16 Gaining Traction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WRDA 16 Gaining Traction<\/p>\n<p>Both the Senate Environment and Public Works and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committees are moving ahead with their plans to pass water resources legislation this year.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee held a hearing on February 10<sup>th <\/sup>entitled \u201cThe Importance of Enacting a New Water Resources Development Act.\u201d\u00a0 Bob Portiss, Chairman of the Tulsa Port of Catoosa and a 5-time Chairman of the National Waterways Conference was a witness.\u00a0 Additional information can be found here:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epw.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/hearings?ID=F8A0C8CC-D434-4CE1-B135-FE27586D25B6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.epw.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/hearings?ID=F8A0C8CC-D434-4CE1-B135-FE27586D25B6<\/a>\u00a0<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-775\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/waterways.org\/wordpress2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/exit_disclaimer.png?resize=10%2C10\" alt=\"exit_disclaimer\" width=\"10\" height=\"10\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment is scheduled to hold a hearing on February 24<sup>th<\/sup> entitled \u201cA Review of United States Army Corps of Engineers Reports to Congress on Future Water Resources Development and Chief\u2019s Reports.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee held a roundtable discussion with industry stakeholders on February 2nd to consider priorities for a Water Resources Development Act in 2016.\u00a0 NWC President Amy Larson participated in the event, attended by more than a dozen lawmakers.\u00a0 Larson urged the Committee to ensure that Section 7001 of WRRDA 14 works as intended.\u00a0 That process provides non-federal stakeholders the opportunity to identify water resources problems and offer possible solutions to those problems, laying the foundation for Congress as it sets priorities and policies for WRDA. \u00a0NWC\u2019s WRDA 2016 Fact Sheet can be accessed here: <a href=\"http:\/\/waterways.org\/wordpress2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/WRDA-2016.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WRDA 2016<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Administration released the 2016 Section 7001 Annual Report, and it can be viewed here:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/waterways.org\/link-is-no-longer-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.usace.army.mil\/Portals\/2\/docs\/civilworks\/Project%20Planning\/wrda\/2014\/2016Report_FutureWaterResources.pdf<\/a>\u00a0<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-775\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/waterways.org\/wordpress2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/exit_disclaimer.png?resize=10%2C10\" alt=\"exit_disclaimer\" width=\"10\" height=\"10\" \/><\/p>\n<p>NWC also recently hosted a \u201cWRDA 101\u201d briefing with staff of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.\u00a0 The standing-room only crowd heard from Let Mon Lee, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and Legislation, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works), who provided an overview of the Corps\u2019 project delivery process.\u00a0 Steve Martinko, now a Government Affairs Counselor at K&amp;L Gates, shared his perspectives as the House T&amp;I lead negotiator for WRRDA 14; and Mark Smith, Deputy Director of the North American freshwater program for The Nature Conservancy, discussed TNC\u2019s role as a major non-federal sponsor of Corps projects and policy initiatives for the WRDAs in 2007 and 2014.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WRDA 16 Gaining Traction Both the Senate Environment and Public  [&#8230;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":800,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"nf_dc_page":"","om_disable_all_campaigns":false,"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[13,7,6],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1329","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-appropriations","category-congressional-actions","category-federal"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.2 -
