NWC Submits Comments on WRRDA Webinars
The National Waterways Conference submitted comments to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in response to a series of webinars held by the Corps to receive input from its water resources partners and stakeholders to consider as it develops guidance to implement the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2014 (WRRDA).
The first webinar addressed provisions related to deauthorizations and backlog prevention, as well as project development and delivery (including planning). The second one focused on the numerous funding provisions in the new law, including alternative financing and credits. The third session covered dam safety, levee safety, and regulatory issues, including section 408 permits. Finally, the last session addressed the remaining categories, including non-federal implementation of studies and projects, water supply and reservoirs, and navigation.
WRRDA establishes significant new policies and programs regarding the development, management and protection of the nation’s water resources, including providing non-federal sponsors with additional opportunities to be more actively engaged in the development of these projects. In its comments, NWC expressed appreciation to the Corps for holding these important webinars and encouraged the Corps to continue to seek input from its non-federal partners, providing for a more collaborative approach to the effective stewardship of the nation’s water resources.
