Appropriations Update
Just before recessing for the Christmas and New Year’s holiday break, and with just a day before funding would run out, the Congress passed another continuing resolution (CR) to fund the federal government through January 19th. The CR extends the Corps of Engineers civil works FY17 funding level of just over $6 billion, but agreement was not reached on a third emergency supplemental bill that would have included $12 billion for the Corps’ hurricane and disaster relief activities. The CR does include another temporary extension for the National Flood Insurance Program.
When the Congress returns in January, there will be only 8 legislative days to conclude an omnibus appropriations package for fiscal year 2018, or agree to another CR. Hang on for the tumultuous ride that is sure to commence.
